Goodbye, Annie

“Finding Meaning”

Between twelve and thirteen my Gordon Setter died,
Callie her name, oh God how I cried,
time alone will heal to myself did I lie,
reasoning’s as this we all try to apply,
when we have no choice but to say goodbye.

And in the end, when death held sway,
our kind vet was heard to say,
“you can go running and screaming all your days,
or leave her with God and walk away.”

And in life when we have no say,
the cross is Gods promise to show us the way,
but if in running and screaming you’d rather depend,
the beginning of sorrows will have no end,
and you’ll never know why love has to die to be born again.

In power above our thoughts should roam,
for any thinking man knows
there is greater power and love beyond our own.
For love is the power that stands alone,
transcends time and for you to own,
seeds of hope through you to be sown.

So make grief a threesome with the one above
and you will know the power of love,
and when found you will want to shout,
“Great God Almighty there is a way out.”

Believe in him is all he asks,
to put him first in all our tasks,
seek him first and one day you will see,
all wagging tails in eternity,

for all your loves, beloved dogs too,
depend on how you live and the good you can do,
so make the right choice for who can and cannot talk,
and in eternity with him and them will you walk.

And if on God’s love you’ll keep leaning,
there will be no more running and screaming,
peace will come and life finds new meaning.
